Its been another interesting week in the land of studing externally!  This week started off with the Peer Review.  I reviewed a really good site, it was great to see what other people were doing and how creative they've been with their sites.  It motivated me to go on LMS and see if anyone else was asking for advice on their site and take a few more sneak peaks!  It made me think about how different the reality of studying at university is now compared to ten years ago (last time I was studying).  Even if you're not studying externally so much is done online now.  While I do miss the one on one interaction that you get by attending a lecture, you can't beat sitting in the comfort of your sofa listening to a lecture on your ipod (or while doing the laundry).  Now thats mulit-tasking!  I have taken some of the advice that was given to me by my reviewer and applied some of her suggestions.

I've learned a few valuable lessons in 'Living and Learning with Technology", and that is, when your laptop breaks down its very difficult to function!  Note to self, make friends with someone in IT or laptop sales!!!

Been having lots of fun exploring all the different social media sites.  Have got through half of my assignment and decided that Facebook was a bit too easy as I've been using it for over five years now.  Probaly would be good to step out of my comfort zone and try and learn about a new site in the process.  Easier said than done!  I've been exploring Pintrest.  Its a great site where you can 'pin' different images from all over the internet and create an online pinboard.  Everything is public so you can see what everyone else is creating as well. Very cool!  Small challenge though, have waited over 10 days to get my login email!  When I first signed up I got an email saying that I was on a waiting list to get in.  I think it might be a way for the site to try and be exclusive or to be very annoying just for fun!  Glad I've finally got in, but don't think I'll have enough time to re-do my assignment.  Will be a bit of a scramble to make Friday's due date!!!

After procrastinating for far too long I've finally cracked the textbook Meaningful Learning with Technology.  So far I've been really impressed with the first few chapters.  I really love the approach the authors have taken in regard to shaking up traditional style of teaching.  Instead of using technology to replace current methods, technology allows teachers to create a completely new way to approach learning in the classroom. I have to admit I was a bit nervous with the idea of having to teach with technology as I've always felt a bit behind in this area.  But as they explain in the text, teachers don't need to be the experts, we can learn along with the students and explore together.  Wow!

So the first challenge I've come across is the hyperlink.  Who knew it could be so tricky!  After checking the discussion board and 'googling' a few sites I think I may have sorted it out.  Only one way to find out!

So here I go!  First ever website and blog dedicated to my journey towards becoming a teacher!  Now thats very exciting!  I'll be checking in regularly to update my daily and weekly discoveries, challenges, projects, assignments and maybe the occasional rant to keep things interesting...stay tuned.
